Victoria Network
Research in Advanced 5G & 6G

WELCOME TO VICTORIA NETWORK

The mobile network experimentation platform for 5G and 6G, known as Victoria Network, managed by the MORSE group at the Institute of Software Technology and Engineering of the University of Málaga (ITIS), is a key European benchmark for the success of 16 projects under the FP7, H2020, and Horizon Europe programs, as well as a support for numerous national projects. Currently, this infrastructure covers part of the Teatinos campus at the University of Málaga (UMA) and is connected to various areas of the province of Málaga through agreements with Telefónica and the Málaga City Council. The infrastructure is being expanded thanks to support from the first Research Infrastructure call of the UNICO 6G program. This platform includes all the necessary elements to create end-to-end private 5G networks with both commercial and experimental equipment, including terminals, base stations, virtualized 5G cores, application servers, measurement instruments, and the ability to create SIM cards, among other features.

EVOLUTION

The Victoria Network has made significant progress over the years. In 2020, its indoor 5G infrastructure was established, implementing private 5G networks with base stations, network cores, and advanced tools such as experiment definition portals, measurement visualizers, and network emulators. Since then, the network has expanded its coverage to various sites to support multiple use cases, including connected cars in collaboration with Dekra, 5G agricultural applications in La Mayora, and public safety in Málaga’s city center, the port, and Torremolinos. This growth has been driven by the support of numerous projects such as 5Genesis, 6G-Sandbox, and the UNICO I+D 6G Victoria Network program, as well as strategic partnerships with public and private entities such as Telefónica and Málaga’s local police. Thanks to these efforts, the Victoria Network has become a European benchmark in the research and development of 5G and 6G mobile technologies.
