Teatinos Campus & Expansion

University of Malaga Outdoor

Teatinos campus of the University of Málaga features a private outdoor 4G/5G mobile network dedicated to research, combining commercial and open-source elements. The outdoor setup includes Nokia cells in collaboration with Telefónica, operating on the LTE band 7 (2600 MHz) and 5G band n78 (3500 MHz), supporting both 5G NSA (Non-Stand Alone) and SA (Stand Alone) modes. This network includes two cells on the 28 GHz band (n261) with a bandwidth of 450 MHz and four cells on the 3.5 GHz band (n78) with a bandwidth of 100 MHz, ensuring high speed and low latency. The network extends across the campus, facilitating advanced telecommunications research and the development of next-generation mobile applications.

Ada Byron Research Building

University of Malaga Indoor

The Ada Byron Building at the University of Málaga houses a private 5G deployment for research, with indoor coverage on the 3.5 GHz band (n78) with 100 MHz bandwidth in SA (Stand Alone) mode, providing low-latency connections and high bandwidth. This setup allows researchers to work with cutting-edge technologies in a controlled environment. The building centralizes the university’s private network infrastructure, connecting to the outdoor deployment and providing high-performance computational resources, including multiple cores and extensive storage.

Malaga City Center

Located in the center of Málaga, this network infrastructure includes a collaboration with Telefónica and the local police through MOCN (Multi-Operator Core Network) technology. This urban deployment covers key areas such as Calle Larios, the Port of Málaga, and the Paseo Marítimo of Torremolinos. It includes six cells on the 3.5 GHz band (n78) for 5G in NSA/SA modes with 100 MHz bandwidth, and another six cells on the 2600 MHz band (B7) for LTE with 20 MHz bandwidth. This infrastructure allows testing in a real urban environment, enhancing connectivity and enabling advanced network services for both commercial use and public safety.

IHSM Experimental Station

La Mayora

The IHSM La Mayora Experimental Station, located in Algarrobo, is equipped with an outdoor 5G SA (Stand Alone) infrastructure for advanced research in smart agriculture and IoT applications. This site includes one cell on the 3.7 GHz band (n77) with 100 MHz bandwidth and three cells on the 2.3 GHz band (n40) with 20 MHz bandwidth, enabling precise testing in agriculture. The station supports predictive models and real-time data collection from agricultural sensors, fostering innovations in precision farming.

Dekra Test Track

Andalusian Technology Park

The Dekra testing track, located in the Andalusian Technology Park (PTA) in Málaga, is equipped with 5G SA capabilities for advanced automotive testing and connected vehicle applications. The infrastructure includes two cells on the 3.7 GHz band (n77) with 100 MHz bandwidth and two cells on the 2.3 GHz band (n40) with 20 MHz bandwidth, offering high-speed, low-latency communication for autonomous driving and vehicle teleoperation testing. This controlled environment is ideal for experimenting with vehicular networks and smart transportation technologies under real-world conditions.

Bioinnovation Building

Andalusian Technology Park

The Bioinnovation Building at the University of Málaga specializes in integrating biotechnology with advanced telecommunications. This building serves as a collaborative hub, supporting research projects in health sciences and biotechnology, linking network infrastructure with developments in IoT and advanced digital technologies for biomedical research.
